This "licence" is actually Civil Liability insurance.
The FFVL also offers optional accident insurance, repatriation and other coverage.
Even if you have your own insurance, you will need the FFVL insurance for a Pure course in France as we are an FFVL school so it is mandatory.
It is not expensive, and it provides useful cover.
Three options are available:
Stage 9 jours
Covers you for 9 consecutive or non-consecutive days within a school setting, to be used within two months of the first day of your course, all within the same school. This is usually the preferred option.
Activité encadrée
Covers you for one year within a school setting only. This can be useful for pilots planning more than one course in the year, spread out over more than two months.
Primo licencié
Covers you for one year flying solo and within a school. This option is only available to EU residents.
For EU residents who take one of the first two options above, you can later take a licence supplement to cover the rest of the year outside of the school if needed.

Get your licence
Taking your FFVL licence
1. Go to ffvl.fr and click “PRENDRE SA LICENCE”.
2. Since it is a new licence, click “Continue”.
3. Fill in all required fields.
4. Select PURE. PURE is currently becoming an FFVL-accredited school. If we do not appear in this section, you will have to wait to get your licence.
5. Keep this box unchecked.
6. Choose “Parapente” under “pratique principale”, then add any relevant secondary activities.
7. Choose the type of licence you would like. See the top of this guide for which licence to choose. It is most commonly the first option: “Stage 9 jours”.
8. You can subscribe to Vol Passion Magazine if you want.
9. Select “Continuer”.
10. Then enter your details.
11. You have different options for optional insurance.
12. After validating 2 pages, choose the level of information you will receive from the FFVL.
13. Accept the final summary and fill in the start date of your training.
14. Finally pay the amount to join. We advise paying by bank card to speed up the validation process.
If you have taken out a 9-day school licence and later want to fly independently, you can add the annual licence supplement through the FFVL website. Follow the steps below inside your FFVL account.
