BEHIND PURE PARAGLIDING
Pure Paragliding is the next stage of Malin Lobb’s career as an instructor and coach, built on ten years of SIV instruction and a broad background in cross-country competition and acro flying.
Malin (pronounced “Mal-in” not “May-lin”) has been an SIV instructor for 10 years. When he first joined Flyeo, he was initially running over 50 courses a year. He soon realised that this baptism of fire was not sustainable, so he has since settled into a more manageable 34 or so courses annually.
Before setting up Pure Paragliding and ActiveAir, he helped Flyeo become recognised as one of the premier SIV schools in the world.
In 2016, Malin co-founded the British Paragliding Racing Academy, which has since produced a World Champion, a European Champion, and British team gold and silver medals.
More recently, he was honoured by the Royal Aero Club in the UK with an award of merit for his contributions to the sport.
Malin often jokes that he’s not sure how he managed to reach this level while balancing family life and multiple businesses, but his focus on wing control from the start has shaped him into the instructor he is today.

Beyond instruction, Malin is a well-rounded pilot. He competes at Superfinal level, has competed in the Paragliding World Cup (PWC) since 2015 and has been active in competitions since 2014. His PB triangle in the Alps is 271km on his Enzo 3.
On the acro side, he’s one of a very small group of pilots worldwide who can both compete at an elite competition level and perform infinity tumbling, although, in his own words:
“I don’t feel particularly good at either discipline when I compare myself to my peers.”
While he modestly notes he’s not at the very top in either discipline individually, it’s the combination of cross-country competition flying, acro and SIV that gives Malin a wide view of pilot development, from performance decisions to energy management and safety.
Becoming an instructor along the way has meant that he has been able to analyse and document his own progress and pass that knowledge on to his students.
Becoming an instructor changed the way Malin looked at flying. It was no longer enough to understand the manoeuvre for himself; he had to analyse what was happening, document progression, and find ways to pass that understanding on to very different pilots.
That process became a major part of his work at Flyeo. Watching patterns emerge across thousands of pilots, refining briefings and debriefs, and building a clearer progression for wing control. It's that attention to detail, combined with technology, that now sets Pure Paragliding apart.
Over the last three years and around 4,400 SIV flights, there has only been one reserve deployment under his instruction. “It doesn’t mean I won’t have one tomorrow, but when you look at the statistics over a long period, it starts to mean something; it shows my teaching methods are working.”
Of teaching SIV
SIV flights with 1 reserve ride.

Traditional SIV often measured progress by whether a pilot completed a manoeuvre. Malin became more interested in whether the pilot understood the movement, could recognise how it was developing and could apply that understanding outside a controlled exercise.
Modern SIV is wing-control and pilot-focused. Situational awareness, the pilot’s response under stress and whether the learning can be integrated into normal flying is the foundation of his teaching.

Pure Paragliding is the evolution of everything Malin learned and developed through Flyeo. Pure gives him more time to focus on each pilot, make the teaching more precise and continue developing the technology that helps pilots prepare, practise, review and integrate their learning.
ActiveAir supports the learning before and after the course, while Malin personally teaches every Pure Paragliding course. Pure is not a departure from his previous experience. It is the evolution.
